Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Terry Glenn was arrested on a charge of auto theft after he rented a sport/utility vehicle from National Rent A Car at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, according to The Dallas Morning News.

The arrest took place Jan. 5 in Irving, Texas. Glenn’s attorney, Luis Vera of San Antonio, said the dispute was over a black Chevrolet Suburban that Glenn rented several weeks earlier.

The officers pulled him over and arrested him, telling him the car had been reported stolen. Glenn was booked into the Irving jail Jan. 5 and was possibly released the next day.

But Vera said authorities overreacted to a simple business transaction. The car rental company had Glenn’s credit card and could have charged whatever it was owed, Vera said. “This is not the first person I’ve had to represent who the rental car companies have done this to,” he was quoted as saying.

A year ago, Glenn was arrested at an Irving hotel on charges of public intoxication and possession of marijuana, according to Irving police records. At the time, he had four outstanding traffic warrants, one for speeding, one for an expired vehicle registration, and two for failure to appear in court.
