car2go Launches 240 smart fortwos in Miami, Commemorates 100 Days in Portland
The car sharing service now has fleet on the ground in Miami, and added new vehicles to its fleet in Portland, Ore.
car2go North America LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler North America Corp., is celebrating the expansion of the car sharing service to Miami and 100 days of operation in Portland, Ore. this month.
car2go officially launched in Miami on July 28, making a network of 240 low-emission smart fortwo vehicles available throughout the city. The project is a two-year trial with the city's parking authority.
Registration is available online and new members can use the promotion code HEAT to waive the registration fee and receive 30 free minutes of driving time for a limited time.
In Portland, car2go announced July 24 that it enrolled 6,000 members within the first 100 days of operations and will make expansions to fit the members.
The company will add 30 smart fortwo electric drive vehicles to join the 250 vehicles in the current car2go Portland car sharing network within the next week.
The Home Area, where members can start and end their rental, is also expanding to encompass 37 square miles to meet the needs of customers.
“The success of car2go around the world to date shows that we are in a time that demands and calls for new mobility solutions in urban settings,” said Nicholas Cole, president and CEO of car2go North America.
