Measures banning age discrimination in the provision of goods and services that was supposed to become effective in April this year, has been delayed. The Equality Act, which has already been implemented in pieces, includes this age discrimination ban that would include the car rental industry.

According to the British Vehicle Leasing and Rental Association (BVRLA), the law would prohibit car rental companies from varying or adding a supplemental charge directly because of the age of the customer. Rental car companies would also be prohibited from restricting what types of vehicles people can rent based only on age.

The BVRLA estimates that the cost of renting to younger drivers in the region would cost members £34.54 million annually.
