Hertz Launches New Sustainability Strategy
Using clean, low-emissions technology such as electric vehicles and hybrids is one aspect of the program.
The Hertz Corp. on Feb. 7 introduced “Living Journey,” which is a new corporate sustainability strategy for the company.
Smart Mobility is one of the program’s strategic initiatives, which will include providing customers with fuel-efficient vehicle rental options that use clean, low-emissions technology such as electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrids. Other initiatives seek to minimize the company’s environmental footprint and operating costs through efficiency improvements, resource management and renewable energy production.
Another aspect of the program includes creating a positive impact and enhancing the communities Hertz serves by giving back through philanthropic and volunteer efforts.
Past sustainability efforts for Hertz included progress in 2011 on its solar generation and EV initiatives.
The company also made efforts to operate in an environmentally responsible manner at its corporate offices and rental facilities. Hertz notes that through its sustainability efforts, the company has recycled more than 50,000 IT units since 2005, which diverted 2 million tons of e-waste from landfills; recycled approximately 680,000 gallons of used oil in 2011, and reduced paper use by 2.8 million pounds since 2006.
The new website, http://www.hertzlivingjourney.com, highlights Hertz's achievements and plans in the sustainability arena, including energy-efficiency improvements such as lighting and HVAC upgrades, using LEED certification standards for Hertz buildings, solar energy production, global recycling efforts and delivering fuel-efficient fleet choices to consumers.
Hertz will roll out its Living Journey initiatives globally through divisions including Hertz Rent A Car, Hertz On Demand, Hertz Equipment Rental, Hertz Entertainment Services and Donlen Corp., the fleet management company.
