After just 100 days of launching operations in the Austrian capitol, Vienna, more than 7,000 people have registered for the car2go car-sharing service.

“We are thrilled to receive this great reception from Vienna”, said Robert Henrich, managing director of car2go GmbH. “Our customers are already using car2go very enthusiastically and are full of praise for its flexibility.”

“A major chapter in the worldwide success story of car2go is being written in Vienna,” added Klaus Entenmann, chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler Financial Services, who is responsible for car2go at the Daimler Group. “And the beginning of this chapter is extremely promising.”

On Dec. 5, 2011, the car2go team started distributing 500 smart fortwo vehicles in Vienna. Since then, there have been more than 60,000 rentals and there are currently more than 10,000 new journeys each week. More than 80% of rentals last less than 45 minutes with an average distance between 5 and 10 kilometers.

The age structure of Viennese customers corresponds to the international average of car2go cities: Approximately 20% of car2go customers are younger than 25 years old; 35% are between age 26 and 35; 30% are between 36 and 49; and 15% are in the 50-plus age group.

After registering in the car2go shop for a one-off registration fee of €9.90, customers can spontaneously rent available car2go vehicles on the street or find and reserve them via the Internet and smartphone applications. The selected vehicle can be opened with a membership card. At their destination customers can leave the car2go in any public parking space and in short-term parking areas inside the operating area free of charge.
