Europcar Reports Frequent Damages to Vehicles with Few Purchasing CDW

In an analysis from Europcar, a car rental company in the United Kingdom, nearly 90 percent of its UK fleet was damaged, including major body work to small chips and cracks, in 2010, according to an Aug. 24 press release.

In contrast to this frequent damange, only about 30 percent of Europcar customer’s purchased a collision damage waiver (CDW) — also known as risk reduction coverage in the UK.

The analysis found that clients most likely to purchase CDW are travelling to another country or are at least unfamiliar with the area. Europcar suggests that the low-rate of customer’s buying into the coverage could be due to their perception of car rental insurance as being an “unnecessary cost,” as the press release states.
