Mass Transit Key Factor in Expanding Car Sharing, Hertz On Demand Says
Hertz On Demand, the hourly rental service — or car-sharing branch — of Hertz. Corp., told Transportation Nation that it looks for cities with a ‘well-defined mass transit infrastructure’ before moving into a new area.
In a feature article from Transportation Nation, Hertz On Demand spokesperson Paula Rivera gave some insights on how the company decides on where to roll out its hourly car rental service, or better known as car sharing. Rivera cited public transportation as being a key indicator if a city is ready for a car-sharing program.
Another factor taken into consideration is if the company is able to partner with the city government, such as Hertz On Demand’s recent launch in Miami Beach, Fla. Zipcar, for example, has partnership with the city of Los Angeles, and car2go has a partnership with the city of Austin, Texas.
Zipcar added that it always starts a program with at least two vehicles, and then grows a program from there.
