The TollPass Automatic service will pay tolls electronically for car rental customers in California, Colorado, Florida and Texas. The optional service, which charges $2 per 24-hour rental period or $6 maximum per rental transaction, will be available starting August 2010.

TSD customers, who subscribe to the RTL service, will be able to automatically bill rental car customers for the fees they incur while driving rental vehicles. This eliminates any toll violations, penalties and legal fees generated by TSD rental car customers, and reduces operating costs.

Florida state regulators are investigating the Hertz Corp.'s use of electronic toll-paying systems, after five customers told officials they were not properly notified that the vehicles they rented in Florida were registered with a company called PlatePass.
