Enterprise Executive Speaks on EV Initiatives

The Chicago Policy Review sat down with the head of Enterprise Holdings for a look into the company's sustainability efforts.

Currently, more than 400 electric vehicles (EVs) are offered at about 50 Enterprise Rent-A-Car locations throughout the U.S. Since EVs became part of Enterprise’s fleet, they have been in good demand. Enterprise plans to continue to include EVs in fleet in order to be "economically viable and acceptable to society," according to Lee Broughton, head of corporate sustainability for Enterprise Holdings.

Rising gas prices, environmentally-friendly initiatives and curiosity about the new technology are a few of the reasons many drivers are drawn toward the EVs, the article states.

Enterprise is working to be able to better monitor and track the emissions generated by the rentals, despite the difficulty to do so accurately. The company is also working with local organizations in order to provide an ample amount of charging stations throughout the U.S.

An example of these initiatives can be seen in pilot programs, such as the “Local Use Vehicle” pilot program and the “EV Owners Discount Program” in Torrance, Calif.

"The reason we make EVs and other alternatives available is to give our customers the fuel efficient vehicle options they want and to help grow the market for cleaner engine technologies," Broughton said to the Chicago Policy Review. "We recognize that keeping the passenger vehicle acceptable to society is crucial to the long-term success of our business and our industry."
