Car2go North America LLC has launched Mobile Access, an upgraded app feature that allows its car-sharing members to not only search and reserve a car2go vehicle, but also begin their car2go trip via their smartphones.
As of last week, Mobile Access will now serve as an alternative to the company's member card, which was the only way to access a car2go vehicle and end a ride, according to the company.

"At car2go, we are focused on improving our service and providing the best experience for our members with their feedback," said Paul DeLong, chief marketing officer of car2go North America. "With the addition of Mobile Access, we're making it easier for our members to get in a car2go. Having options are everything — now, our members won't have to carry their membership card; they'll be able to drive in no time."
Mobile Access works similarly to the member card, allowing members to unlock a car2go and start their trip, according to the company. If they prefer, members can also continue to use their member card instead.
To use Mobile Access, members must first update their iOS or Android car2go app to version 2.0.
According to car2go, here is how users can begin and end their car2go trip:
To begin car2go trip:
Arrive at the car2go vehicle.
Select the vehicle on the car2go smartphone app.
Click the vehicle detail box at the bottom of the screen.
Hit “start rental” to begin your trip.

The new Mobile Access feature will be available on car2go’s global fleet of over 12,500 vehicles, says the company. Currently, car2go operates in eight countries and 30 cities, including Austin, Brooklyn, San Diego, Miami, Denver and Seattle.
Rental operators can now detect and act on speeding while vehicles are still on rent, thereby reducing fines, admin workload, vehicle wear, and safety risks.
The combination brings actionable vehicle insights into PurCo’s PurInspect platform, improving damage detection and operational efficiency for rental fleets.
LOR related to insurance claims overall continues to trend downward, but ongoing market and economic conditions could affect future results while the industry deals with staffing and productivity challenges.
West Coast disasters pose unique challenges and liabilities for rental fleet operators, who are advised to take steps tailored to their specific situations.
Angry car renters are storming social media, the mainstream media, and online ratings platforms to complain about charges they claim are either unfounded or excessive.
