car2go has announced that its carsharing fleet in Columbus will now feature the latest version of the smart model as well as new car2go technology.
This marks the first fleet upgrade for Columbus since the service launched in 2013. The Columbus fleet will be upgraded with 200 new smart fortwo vehicles and technology via the car2go app by the end of March, according to the company.
"Thousands of Columbus residents have embraced the benefits of carsharing, and we're thrilled our members in Columbus will get to experience the newest car2go technology and smart model," said Chet Ridenour, general manager of car2go Columbus. "According to the first ever one-way carsharing study conducted in North America, UC Berkley found that for every car2go on the road, car2go is removing up to 11 vehicles from the roads and preventing up to 14 metric tons of pollution. Now, with proven environmental benefits along with our new technology, car2go will continue to partner with the City of Columbus to provide innovative mobility options while collaborating on initiatives like the Smart Cities grants."
The new car2go smart fortwo vehicles include features such as Bluetooth access, seat warmers, a roomier interior and additional trunk storage space, and a new six-speed twinamic dual-clutch transmission.
Columbus residents can use the promo code NEWSMART for free registration (regularly $5) and a $5 drive time credit through March 31, 2017.
