Fox Rent A Car has announced the final acquisition of a carsharing platform developed by JustShareIt (JSI).

JSI is a cloud-based peer-to-peer carsharing platform that allows individuals to rent or share cars directly from individual car owners. Fox and JSI development teams have been working the past 12 months to integrate the two platforms.

Fox's new mobile experience enables customers to reserve a car, bypass the rental counter, and proceed directly to the car, according to the company. Customers will then choose their vehicle and drive off.

Initially, this new service is only available at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), but it will expand to most Fox corporate locations within a few months.

"The new integrated platform will help Fox to not only offer the customers a rental at a much faster speed, but will also create new business models that are not currently available in car rental industry," said Mike Jaberi, Co-CEO of Fox Rent A Car. "The JSI platform acquisition has enabled Fox to explore new opportunities in a hybrid model of car rental and carshare at a much faster pace."

"Fox has been able to utilize the JSI platform to create a new rental process that is in high demand," said Gaurav Kohli, founder of JustShareIt. "I see great opportunities in creating a new technology-based hybrid marketplace at lower cost in car rental since joining Fox."

Additionally, Fox is currently in discussions with two automobile manufacturers to enhance a part of its fleet with connected car technology, according to the company. Once the fleet is directly integrated with the new Fox rental platform, Fox members will be able to pick up and drop off cars at a variety of decentralized locations, independent from Fox's centralized rental locations.
