car2go has announced its new skill for Amazon Alexa. A car2go vehicle can now be reserved via voice commands.

With a car2go membership and an Alexa-enabled device, customers can enable the car2go skill for Alexa.

"Amazon and car2go are innovation leaders in their fields,” said Paul DeLong, CEO of car2go NA. “Today, our American members get to enjoy a great new enhancement to the car2go experience that helps make their lives easier. The ability to now find and reserve a nearby car2go with a simple voice command via Amazon Alexa helps take the car2go membership experience to a new level of fun, simplicity, and convenience."

The car2go skill for Amazon Alexa is available free of charge. To use it, car2go members enable the skill and then link their car2go account in the Alexa app, according to the company.

"We're always looking for new and unique ways to bring Alexa into peoples' lives," said Rob Pulciani, director of Amazon Alexa. "Enabling car2go members to find and reserve vehicles by voice through the car2go skill makes getting around town that much easier and more convenient."

The command "Alexa, ask car2go where the nearest car is" triggers Alexa to search for the nearest available car2go and calculate the distance by foot from the member's home. "Alexa, tell car2go that I want to reserve a car" enables car2go members to reserve a car2go for up to 30 minutes.

Additionally, car2go members can ask Alexa how much longer their car2go reservation is valid for or cancel their reservation if they need, according to the company. The car2go app is still required in order to open a car2go and start or end the car2go rental process.

The car2go skill for Amazon Alexa is currently available in the U.S., Germany, and Austria.
