General Motors has halted delivery of its 2013-2014 Chevrolet Cruze compact sedans equipped with 1.4L turbo engines, a company spokesman has confirmed to the Detroit News.

The automaker e-mailed its dealers Thursday with a stop-delivery notice that didn't include an explanation for the move, reports the Wall Street Journal.

The move affects about a third of the Cruze vehicles now in dealer inventory, GM spokesman Alan Adler told the News.

In 2013, commercial fleets registered 2,233 Cruze cars, while governments added 416. Rental fleets added 58,487.
