Ford Recalls Nearly 900,000 Taurus, Mercury Sable Sedans

DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co. has recalled 899,060 Taurus and Mercury Sable sedans. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, front springs are at risk of breaking and pucturing a tire when the cars are driven on roads treated with salt for the winter.

The recall affects only 1999, 2000 and 2001 models registered in 22 states. Ford dealers will install protective spring shields on the recalled models.
