Chrysler Group is recalling 435,581 2011-2014 model-year vehicles equipped with a 3.6L engine and a 160-amp alternator because the alternator might suddenly fail and result in stalling, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

The recall covers the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee. They were all manufactured from June 17, 2010 to Dec. 23, 2013.

Chrysler isn’t expected to begin notifying vehicle owners of this recall until Nov. 28 because a remedy for the problem is still under development, NHTSA said.

Vehicle owners can reach Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P60.

How do I get reimbursed for the alternator I had to replace on my 2012 Dodge charger in August due to burning smell, and completely stalled.

    thank you

Just bought our 2013 Dodge Durango 2 weeks ago and our battery/alternator went out..It's going to cost $1100 to get it fixed..Dodge won't reimburse until the recall comes out and then we don't even know if it's covered..They said that they can't tell it's the P60 recall..I would assume since it's the alternator that went out it would be the same??

We just bought our 2013 Dodge Durango 2 weeks ago and the alternator/battery went out..We got it diagnosed at the dealership like Dodge requested..It's going to cost $1100 to fix this..Dodge is now stating that they don't know if this is the P60 recall..So we don't know if we will get reimbursed at all..The alternator went out..How do they not know if it's the same thing??

My 2011 Chrysler 300 just (Nov. 11) displayed Battery Saver Mode. The electronic instruments started to malfunction so I pulled off the freeway and parked the car and turned it off. When I went to unlock the car to get back in, I was locked out as the car had no electrical power. I had the car towed. As with the previous posting, I now must pay to have the alternator replaced and wait for Chrysler to send out recall notices under the P60 corporate recall statement before they will cover the costs. My question is what if their engineers discover the faulty alternators can be fix with a $5 part. Am I going to be reimburse my actual repair costs or only $5 plus service charge. Chrysler's recall customer service rep. could not answer that question.

I am the owner of a 2011 dodge durango v6. Last night my electrical system frazzled and im 99% sure its the alternator. It started out making a high pitched whining noise which got worse everyday until the temp dropped below zero and killed it. I've called chrysler and they had no idea what P60 was. I've also been to the dodge dealership and they looked at me like I was on drugs....why so secretive?

  9. 2007 dodge charger [ November 21, 2014 @ 07:01AM ]

My 2007 dodge charger did the same thing on 11/13/2014 in tulsa, oklahoma .. it got cold and the alternator went out while I was on the highway with my three year old in the car and ice on the roads. My dad always told me to NEVER buy a dodge but I didnt listen. This is the second time it has been in the shop for the same problem. Last year I had to replace the fule pump, alternator, and starter. Mine is covered under my warranty with a $100 deductible thank god.

This happened to me today, 2012 Grand Cherokee with 48k miles literally just shut down going down the road. Got car towed to jeep service center, did my research & called Jeep who then called my service center. While my Jeep is out of commission for a few days i am not out of pocket a penny (they say). I think Chrysler is starting to understand the significance of this issue so i would recommend calling the Chrysler hotline. My Jeep has been great thus far and i was impressed they took ownership of the issue and called my service center to coordinate payment. Well done Jeep!

  11. gregg [ November 25, 2014 @ 08:25AM ]

So im back again with another comment. I finally dragged my dead durango to the dodge dealership and was told that it would be $1,044 to fix my alternator and my battery. They also said the p60 recall does not exist and basically im a crazy person. My car only has has 26,000 miles on it and its already falling apart. Way to go Pueblo, Colorado dodge you could have easily done a goodwill warranty repair being that my warranty just expired but you decided screwing the consumer would be the better route.

  12. Diego [ November 25, 2014 @ 12:21PM ]

I have a 2013 challenger that started making a light whistle noise coming from the alternator that gradually got louder and louder until the car eventually just died on me while I was driving down the highway. When it happened the dashboard lights got dimmer and dimmer and my dashboard censors all went on and off multiple times before the car completely died. I had to get the car towed to the nearest dealership. This happened last night and I'm currently in the middle of figuring out what happened to the car and if and/or when Dodge will be picking up the bill. They have told me that the recall letters will not be sent out until the end of November 2014 or early December so I would have to wait until then to get it completely fixed but in the mean time they have offered to make the car drivable until the letter comes out. Let’s hope they keep to their word and it doesn’t take too long. Thanksgiving is 2 days away and I need to drive north to meet with family. I may have to be stranded in a strange city during this holiday. They also have told me that they cannot provide me with a rental.

  13. Emilio [ November 27, 2014 @ 01:44PM ]

I am the first owner of a 2013 Dodge Charger and I travel from Texas to New Mexico often but thank God I was in town when my car died out I had to get it towed to a mechanic and buy a brand new alternator I paid 185 to have it towed 5 minutes up the street and $450 to order the part plus pay he mechanic but i saved all recipes and dodge said they would reimburse me as long as I kept all receipts even for the towing she also gave me a heads up they are investigating a faulty wiring for the headlights which I also had replaced hopefully they find the problem that way I can get reimbursed for that as well I love my car but if I didn't have money aside it would have been junk and for some crazy reason I'm still thinking about getting 2015 Dodge

  14. Emilio [ November 27, 2014 @ 01:52PM ]

Well I finally got pueblo, co dodge to admit the recall really does exist. They offered to fix the alternator free of charge but apparently the battery is also shot (probably killed by the alternator). So pueblo, co dodge said the battery is not part of the recall which I find hard to believe. For the battery to get replaced is $340.00 plus tax which is strategically located under the seat so a person with little mechanical ability can't get to it. To top it all off I'll have to go back in to this fantastic pueblo, co dodge dealership again once Chrysler figures out how they will give the problems a permanent fix. Once again that's PUEBLO, CO DODGE On hwy 50 in Pueblo, CO. Such a shame they can't combine the words customer and seems so simple.

  16. Justin [ December 2, 2014 @ 04:56PM ]

Gregg, I am sorry to hear about how you experience with a dodge dealer. I am a technician at cornhusker auto in Norfolk ne and am proud to work for my dealer as we try to be fair with our customers. It takes years to earn a customer and seconds to lose one.

  17. Tiffany [ December 2, 2014 @ 05:01PM ]

Last October I paid $697 to have my alternator and battery replaced. At 1 pm today I pulled out of the mechanic from having my rear end knuckles fixed from being bent. I got to the traffic light 30 seconds later , my music shut off, all my dash lights came on, windshield wipers startedto go on their own and I literally could only go 5 mph, then my car died. Called the dodge dealer and they told me basically there is no alternator yet for the recalled one in the charger and that if I wanted it fixed, I had to pay for it, and no loaner car. They wouldn't know when the new alternator would be ready, could take 6 months to a year. Chrysler was no help either. Told me that comp my car being towed to dealer , that was a lie, I had to pay $ 50.

  18. Justin [ December 2, 2014 @ 05:01PM ]

I also do notice that a lot of upset customers blame the middle man "the dealership" why the issue is somewhere between corporate and the dealer so if there is any way I can be of assistance, please let me know.

  19. Gregg [ December 2, 2014 @ 07:36PM ]

Since my issues with the dealership I have been in contact with Chrysler at the recall hotline and they have been much more helpful than the dealership. The recall people have told me the dodge dealership must fix my Durango at no cost to me but they are even having a hard time reaching the service manager so my case has been escalated to a case manager. I'm still not going to hold my breath from fear of passing out but I will say the recall people have gone out of their way to help me and are all extremely polite...

  20. joe [ December 4, 2014 @ 11:36PM ]

Man o man so I'm driving down the road today and out of nowhere my 2012 challenger electronics went crazy and then seconds later bam the car was dead and I had no controls. I was able to pull off to the side of the road just as I lost total power. I had it towed home started doing research and called Chrysler recall division. Sure enough it was my alternator. I was directed by Chrysler to have the car towed to dealership. After it was completed and the official diagnosis is complete. I'm supposed to contact the recall center and have them contact the dealership. It looks as if they will cover the alternator and battery due to my warranty, and coverage.

I'm hoping that the recall center is correct as it a 700.00 fix just for the part not counting the battery. Merry x Mas to me......

In October my 2011 dodge charger went totally dead. I had to have my car towed. I bought a $150 battery. The next day I called the dealer bad was told there was no recall for my alternator. Now my car is in battery mode today Dec 6th. I received a recall notice Dec 5th for the alternator how convenient. Months later

Just got my recall letter today. Called the hotline about reimbursement. The representative stated that they WILL NOT reimburse because I didn't get it repaired at a dodge dealership. This happened in October which at the time I didn't have 1000 dollars for dodge to do the job so I bought the part online. I think this is quite understandable and I should be reimbursed. Anyone have any suggestions as to who I can go to about this matter

  25. Robin M Loney [ December 7, 2014 @ 06:20AM ]

Dec 5 2014 coming home from work 7 am on the highway car just went dead while I'm driving it. I just received the recall notice for alternator the day before. I get the car towed to the dealership was told that the recall parts weren't available yet so I would have to go through my extended warranty company or either pay for the repairs myself. The extended warranty company did not want to pay for repairs because it is a recall part that is the problem. The dealership told me they could fix my car if I pay for it but they did not have recall parts. I was furious. After hours of going back and forth with the dealership and the warranty company I called Chrysler. They told the dealership to fix my car at no cost to me. I couldn't believe they were trying to charge me for a part that they know is shutting down cars. I'm happy my car was repaired but the experience has left me with a bad feeling about Chrysler /Dodge.

  26. Val Emmons [ December 7, 2014 @ 12:50PM ]

Ok folks here is the thing...they will not be fixing your car but rather putting a band-aid (same defective alternator but new) on your car until they manufacture one without a defect..if that is even the issue. This just happened to me yesterday going about 50MPH in a heavy traffic are..without warning my car just went power steering, brakes or hazard lights and it was almost dark. I do not feel safe even after they "fix" the car this week because it is not truely fixed and has to go back when they have a fix. This is a safety issue so do not feelok after they "fix" it for now.

  27. lokio [ December 7, 2014 @ 03:53PM ]

I've put in a new alternator already from the autoparts store and went bad then I got another one with the warranty and its going bad again .. could this be a wiring harness problem?

  28. Gregg [ December 7, 2014 @ 05:38PM ]

File complaints with the federal trade commission, your state attorney general and the bbb it may not have an immediate affect but it will at least get the government aware. The 2011 Dodge Durango is a lemon and we should all be treated like kings for buying such a piece of shit but instead your local dealership treats you like a second rate citizen.

  29. Lauren [ December 7, 2014 @ 11:19PM ]

In May of 2013 my car was parked and when I tried to start it back to leave it wouldn't do anything!! I ended up having to pay a 70$ tow fee to the dealer ship where I then paid 125$ for a battery and 550$ for an alternator with a total bill with labor of 900$!! Now here we are in Dec of 2014 and I jump in my car to leave and the dash is flashing "battery saver mode" the ABS light and traction control lights were on, my headlights were dim my radio shut off and the car had a funny smell under the hood! I knew immediately the issue and was so furious! I had not yet received a recall notice, so i Google the issue and saw the recall! Not to mention the two head lamp assembly I have replaced for 400$(+)! I have mailed off my paperwork for my 1300$$ reimbursement. This was my first and last Dodge!

  30. Dave Hardy [ December 8, 2014 @ 12:48PM ]

Driving to Bethesda, MD from Northern NJ. 2 Blocks from hotel and everything goes ABS, Traction Control, Brake Light are flashing, the heat goes to 100% can't shut off the heat can't open the windows Dashboard dies, Wiper barely moving. Battery Saver Mode activated. Pull into a parking lot and the cars dies right there (parking lot was for a Funeral Home) could ask for a better resting place. Have car towed to dealership on Saturday 5:00PM of course it's Saturday night so no service on Sunday have to rent a car to get home. Get home late Sunday evening and guess what's in the mail? Yep you guessed it a recall notice (P60) describing exactly to the letter and to the "T" what can and did go wrong with my Charger. Called the Dealership and informed them I have the P60 recall notice. Oh you do? yes why? we don't have a fix yet for your car. We'll figure something out. Meanwhile my car is in Maryland and I'm in Jersey with a rental and so far they aren't covering my rental or how they are fixing and getting my car back to me. PS: this is my 8th car from Chrysler if they want me to buy my 9th and 10th in February they figure something out that works for me or here comes Chevy.

  31. Marvin [ December 9, 2014 @ 06:54AM ]

Just called our Dodge dealer in Augusta, Ks. They have no record of the P60 Alternator recall or the N07 Airbag wiring harness issue. They can't tell me if I will be reimbursed if I purchase an Alternator from the auto parts store. I am concerned about driving the car any further than I want to walk! Additionally, most of my driving is on the interstate, which creates a substantial safety concern were I to suddenly lose power in freeway traffic. Come on Dodge!! Providing your customers with an installed replacement alternator may appear expensive, but it will pale compared to a class action lawsuit after someone is killed due to this known defect.

  32. Gregg [ December 9, 2014 @ 07:59AM ]

Hey Marvin don't buy from the auto parts store because you will NEVER get your money back. Call Chrysler you should have much better luck....maybe

same thing all you guys described happened to me on my 2012 charger. now im stuck without a car and better yet a broken car without a fix. I've been on the phone with Chrysler all day and they are giving me the run around they stated they are not providing a loaner or rental reimbursement. my last DODGE. I will ever purchase another one. I have a 2006 Durango, my mother in law has a 2012 jeep with a ton of problems, my aunt has a 2009 Chrysler 200 and she's had problems. my neice has a 2011 challenger and it's been giving her problems and she'll soon face this one as well. my sister has a 2013 dodge journey and she' been family has been loyal to dodge and all I can say is they have lost a good family if these issues are not resolved.

  35. Melissa [ December 12, 2014 @ 05:48AM ]

I received my recall notice in the mail a few days ago and lo and behold yesterday I had a power reduction in my engine and later in the day my car started making the whining noise. My husband drove the car home and said the idling was going up and down and the noise remains. We both called Chrysler yesterday and were told that we basically had to drive the car in its current condition until it dies (which could be in the middle of the highway during rush hour traffic I added), only then we can take it to the dealership and have a temporary fix made to the car until the parts for the permanent repairs are made. Of course this morning he tries to remote start and it cranks so he shuts it off, later getting ready to leave for work, the car won't remote start but will start when you get in to push the button to start. He pulls off and ABS and Traction Control comes on and he smells an electrical burning smell so he backs back up to our house and cuts it off. Tow truck is on its way and the dealer will be fixing my car. The reps we spoke at Chrysler were very helpful even though you are responsible for the tow to the dealer and you are responsible for a rental unless they can work it out with the dealer to get you a loaner. I don't feel like I should have to use my roadside assistance for a tow when Chrysler has told us that we have to drive it until it dies. Which could also cause the battery to take a dive costing them even more money (they did say they would pay for the battery replacement if that happens). I've had this car for 3 years now and have loved it since I got it. All cars have recall issues, heck I'm glad I didn't buy a Camaro now because those have had more recalls from what I understand. I just hope the permanent fix and parts are available soon, I hate being without my car and don't want to keep going to the dealership to get temporary fixes.

I bought a 2014 Dodge Charger and I've been having major issues with the car. My husband was driving home last night and the car wouldn't come out of first gear on the high way. The alternator, check engine, tire service, and traction control lights are all on and even though I have warranty I am still going to be charged a service fee and a rental fee. Which is ridiculous. This all relates to the p60 recall.

2012 Dodge Charger: While Driving on the Highway the car started to stall. We had the car parked for about 2 months until we received the recall letter. We towed the car to the dealership and they are stating that they will replace the alternator but we have to pay for the battery that died as well when the alternator went. I don't think this is fair. We should get covered for both, the alternator and the battery. Very aggregated by this whole entire situation. Thinking about getting rid of this car and getting a Honda. To many headaches.

I recently received the recall letter in the mail for the alternators and not even a week later my check battery light came on and my car went into battery saver mode. I instantly turned around and drove straight to the dealership. I told them that I was on my way out of town since this all had happened on Christmas Eve and I'm a college student going home to see my family. The service supervisor absolutely would not help me without a case number! So, I call and get a case number and then they tell me they don't have the new alternator to put on it. So what am I to do? I have no family in town to help out, I need my car! I called customer service back and talked to many different people and regardless of the situation, they were adamant to provide me with a rental! Their exact words were, "drive it until you break down and then have it towed." So I could just be stranded where ever it dies at? Not to mention they wouldn't pay for the tow without a "diagnosis first." HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I am extremely disappointed! The situation makes me not even want to own a Dodge! Thankfully though, some kind technician put a new battery in my car and a replacement alternator to keep me on the road until it either gives out as well or the new part comes in. UGH!

I to have received the recall letter and have had the same issues that have been mentioned. On Dec. 20th, my 2011 Charger issues started with the instrument panel lighting up with the ABS, Traction Control and battery indicator lights. Then came the whining noise, so pulled over in an Advance Auto lot to check it out. Turned car off, opened hood and discovered smoke coming from around the alternator. Started car back up and noticed that the alternator had locked up with the the belt sliding over the pulley. Called roadside assistance that I have, waited about 30 minutes for wrecker for tow and went to make sure that the car will go in neutral to go onto rollback, there was absolutely no power at all. No lights, could not open truck, nothing. So after towing to the local Dodge dealership, and after having to have a new alternator, belt and battery and let alone the bill for 1051.76 (Merry Christmas to me) I am back on the road again. Hoping that Chrysler will help me out with the expense of the alternator.

From all of these anecdotal stories the blaring conclusion is that Chrysler has a monumental problem on their hands. A financial one at that. I have a 2012 Challenger SXT - love the car got a whiff through the vents of burning electrical and it has sat ever since for two months. The dealer's response like all the stories ahead of this was the same - and its not the dealers fault. Although it is a Japanese part, Chrysler bears the responsibility for fixing it and the PR problem they gave themselves. It is apparent that Chrysler wants to fix this on the cheap. I for one don't want an altered alternator with a plumbed in diode. I want a replacement alternator . Chrysler should be providing us with progress notes in resolving this matter and with none only lends itself to more owner dissent. Maybe its time for a class-action lawsuit because ALL of us have invested GOOD money into our cars which we depend on for reliable transportation. The Pentastar V-6 is a good engine - have had no problems otherwise.

so about a month ago I'm driving my husband's car and I feel it start to lose power and the radio stops working luckily I was only 15 minutes from home. When he got home I told him his car was acting funny and I smelt a weird smell when I was driving he goes out to check it and the car wouldn't start at all it was completely dead. Needless to say a thousand dollars later and a new alternator was the result. I'm going to look into it but I'm not sure if this recall will cover our charges but it seems like this faulty alternator was definitely not from normal use.I will update once I reach out to the dealership lol its a Monday after Christmas and they aren't open today go figure. Hayes Chrysler Dodge country in Lawrenceville Georgia for any of you that live in this area

Glad I found this post!! Same thing happened to me Christmas Eve, was heading back from Niagara Falls to Hamilton, Ontario and my 2012 Charger had like a burnt electricial smell coking through the air vents. I then noticed the the radio turned off and I seen on the dash display the car was in battery saving mode. As soon as I got off the highway in HAMILTON my car just died at the first stop light and the all the lights on the instrument panel were blinking and I couldn't start the car again for a bit. Luckily I was able to get it started again as I was only a few blocks away from home and got it home with my kids!!! After I got home, I couldn't disengage the transmission since it is electronic (bad move on chryslers part) as if you loose power your car can't not shift!!!! Needless to say I was worried leaving it in the driveway like this but did put the emergency brake on. I had it towed to the nearest Chrysler dealership to me, Johnston Chrysler on hamilton mountain and low and behold it was the alternator. Do note the alternator alone is $900 and another $400 labor. I asked them if the alternator is made of gold as $900 for an alternator? You kidding me? So of course, I started to research this problem on the web as I was so angry on the cost, especially on a dodge. I then found this page and a few others showing this P60 recall. I then called Chrysler canada and they were pretty much playing dumb with me saying that my 2012 dodge charger did not have this recall. Bullshit!!! Then tell me why my alternator died within 2 years. Obviously defective!!! Needless to say Chrysler is not willing to help me with my over $1500 repair bill with taxes at all. I will never ever purchase a Dodge or Chrysler product again as I have never heard of a $900 alternator that dies within 2 years for any car manufacturer but them. And they won't even admit my car has the same problem as the P60 recall. Chrysler you suck and I will never purchase another product from you nor ever recommend one to anyone.

There is no excuse for this. My alternator went out and my Durango has been at the dealership for days. They can't seem to get the temporary or any kind of fix. One representative stated that the temporary fix is on a national back order. Another representative assured me that the part would be overnighted to the dealership but they still don't have it. Chrysler will not provide a rental car and they can't get the part to fix my car. This is the worst customer service I have ever had. This is not even comprehensible. How can any company do their customer like this? I can't even find out when they will get the part for my vehicle. I have talked to so many people with the dealership and Chrysler, I just keep getting passed around and told that the part will come and it never does. THE BOTTOM LINE.... Chrysler's alternators are bad, Chrysler does not have a temporary fix for them as they are on national back order, you have no vehicle to drive for an undetermined amount of time, Chrysler will not provide a rental car and does not care at all what you do. You are simply out of luck because you trusted Chrysler to provide you and your family and safe vehicle.

My 2012 Dodge Charger Alternator went out on January 11, 2014 at approx 7:00pm. Of course this is the P60 recall and a HUGE SAFETY ISSUE, as my car completely SHUT-DOWN at night time (Completely dark out) on a back country road while my fiance and our (2) MINOR CHILDREN were coming home. As all electrical systems shut down and the car actually put itself in PARK. SHE AND MY (2) CHILDREN were stopped directly in her lane with NO HAZARD LIGHTS AVAILABLE. CHP was immediately dispatched, (I assume from a passing motorist) and CHP had triple AAA come out as an emergency service call to pull my car off the road as it was blocking the lane she was in. We were then of course charged a $200 tow fee by AAA, to move my car approx. 40 feet OFF THE ROAD as CHP stated my car was a hazard to us and to other motorists.

THIS IS NOT A MINOR REPAIR. This is a HUGE SAFETY ISSUE and needs to be addressed by Chrysler immediately.

All who have commented on here. PLEASE CONTACT the National Highway Traffic Association and write a complaint regarding this issue. Chrysler is dragging its feet with this recall. The more people that call in the more Chrysler will have to address the SAFETY ISSUE and have it resolved ASAP..In addition to refunding all of you who have paid out of pocket for your repairs for something that is clearly Chrysler's responsibility.

I was fortunate to have the full extended warranty on my car and my dodge dealer has covered my repairs as a curtosy of Chrysler. This also is further proof that Chrysler is responsible for the SAFETY ISSUE.

Please join with me in filing complaints directly. PLEASE NOTIFY CHRYSLER THIS IS A FULL SAFETY ISSUE and not just a minor repair they can drag their feet on.

Also contact the traffic safety board, bureau of automotive repair and any other you can think of.

Devin I sure will. They need a lawsuit against them filed. My challenger did this yesterday. No recall part so they are putting a new but same alternator which is under warranty. The issue killed my battery and they want me to pay 225.00 for a new one cause its not under warranty. If it's part of recall prob. They should pay for it. I do not feel safe in this st all but I still owe over Kelly blue book trade in worth. I do not want another dodge. I'm hinges yo Honda.

My 2011 dodge charger dash board lights came on Sunday January 11, 2015 Battery Save Mode. Then I begun to smell smoke. Next the radio shut of. I parked the car and shut it off. The next day I tried to unlock the car with the remote and the car wouldn't unlock. Called the dealer and they wanted me to wait a week to bring it to them. Unprofessional. Call the recall number to Dodge and they weren't helpful. Dealer want to charge about 700 plus taxes and 300 for the battery. I'll never buy a dodge again. This is my third recall. Head Light, Airbag wire for the seat and now the alternator.

ok lets start with this. My 2012 Dodge Charger SE will not turn of properly. It says "NOT IN PARK" this has been going on for 4 months now, the dealership has looked at it. The mechanic the first time said it happened to him. He replaced the "wireless remote" for $553. and it continues to happen. Dodge gave it to a Engineer to look at, he said he downloaded the data and then I got a letter stating there is nothing wrong. I have video of this not shutting off properly.

I have to add that on one occasion, the vehicle was in park and I was unloading stuff out of the truck. It went into reverse and almost ran me over. Is anyone else having this problem?

I talked to the dealership and they said the battery was faulty. Go figure. The dealership told me that I would have to pay for the battery out of pocket. I then called the Chrysler recall hotline and I spoke to a very, very nice lady who then called the dealership and explained to them that the battery would be covered under the recall. I'm very thankful for that. The dealership does not have an alternator in stock to fix my car and if I will not have my car back by tomorrow they will cover a rental car for me.

My husbands alternator went out all of a sudden in his 2011 charger. He was told it was a recall but his car has been at the dealership for two weeks waiting on the part. That's our only vehicle and the dealership refused to give him a loaner car and also claimed Dodge doesn't give loaners or cover rentals.

my alternator went out in my 2012 Chrysler 300 V 6 limited with 33,000 miles on it. I payed $878 for new alternator plus labor out of pocket. It happened 5 months ago before the recall was announced, obviously the alternator was bad dying after 33,000 miles...then i contacted chrysler after hearing about the recall, waited until November to see if I would get a recall letter in the mail and I never received a letter. Called chrysler back and they had the nerve to tell me my vehicle was not on the recall list and they will not reimburse my money, I honestly think they're just telling me this because they don't want to refund my money and they know the vehicle is not a safety issue anymore since I repaired it. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A CHRYSLER PRODUCT AGAIN!

  77. Heather [ January 27, 2015 @ 03:46PM ]

In early December, my 2011 Dodge Charger died on me because of this alternator. The dealership told me that Chrysler did not have a permanent fix for this problem yet. The dealership put in a new alternator, charged me $1300 and told me to send the receipt and the recall notice to Chrysler directly to get reimbursed. I was told by my dealership that it would take about 60 days. I haven't seen anything from Chrysler yet and I have this sinking feeling that I won't, either. I was also told that had the permanent fix been available, I would not have been charged a cent for it. I'm concerned that this replacement alternator will conk out sooner rather than later. It makes no sense that Chrysler would charge a customer the full price for repairs on a recalled part that has no fix. It is very unfair. I will never buy a Chrysler product again.

  78. Natalie [ January 31, 2015 @ 05:57AM ]

I had big issues in October/November with my 2011 Durango and the TPIM recall. Of course I had issues BEFORE the recall came out and had to diagnose it myself to the dealership based on my own Google research. I ended up getting it fixed but had to pay my warranty copay. 2 months later I get the recall notice that it was chryslers problem to begin with! Now, on 1/22 my car starts whining... My husband checks all my fluids and notices my power steering fluid is like gone. We replace it and the whine stops. The next day, it's back and it's bad. I call carmax to try to get a service appt but they can't see me for 2 weeks! Of course. On Monday 1/26 my battery lights come on while driving and the whining is so bad I think a fire engine is behind me. We say screw carmax and take it straight to dodge. They diagnose it as a recalled alternator but there is still no fix! They say that thr alternator is not affecting the motor and is safe to drive. They will contact us in 2-4 weeks when a part becomes available. I leave the dealership at 9:30am, drive the car 15 miles home. 2 hours later I drive it 2 miles to work, leave work at 3pm and drive 2 miles home. About 1,000 feet from my house I lose all ability to accelerate. I somehow make it in my driveway and turn the car off. 5 mins later I smell electrical burning and pop the hood and my alternator is SMOKING. The car is now completely dead (my key fob is actually still stuck in the ignition and my doors won't open its so dead). We call the dealership and they have "never seen this happen!" They tell me to call Chrysler to complain about the part being unavailable. I sit on the phone for 2 hours and get no where. Both Chrysler and the dealership refuse to pay to have my car towed back to them. WTF? THEY let me drive off the lot 6 hours prior!!! So now, my car is dead in my driveway and there is no part available to fix it and no one will take it as a trade in non-working condition. I will never buy a dodge again.

I have a 2012 Dodge Charger SXT Plus (3.6L) with 59,000 miles on it. The car went into Battery Saver Mode off and on for the past 3 months. I noticed a semi sluggish feeling to it during that time. Finally, the Malfunction Indicator Light stayed illuminated and I took it in to a Dodge Dealership to be looked at. Turns out that my Alternator had apparently gone out. The recall apparently does not cover my Charger because it possesses a 180 Amp Alternator and not the 160 Amp Alternator that is being recalled. It is absolutely ridiculous that my car would not be included when it is obvious the same Alternator issue occurred. The total to have it repaired at the dealership was $677.99. A 2 year old car should never need an alternator replaced and it is sad that Dodge will not refund me back my money. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and will keep on calling the Chrysler Recall Hotline until they refund me back my money. It is a sad world we live in when a Corporation does not stand behind their product.

I had my 2011 Durango towed to the dealership on Monday. They did a "good will" replacement of the alternator (to another recalled one since the new one isn't available yet) and they replaced the battery since the smoking alternator badly damaged it. I was really honest with the service manager about my frustration and he assured me that was the last problem I would have. So I get halfway home from the dealership and my battery light comes on!!!! I called the dealership as soon as it happened but they had already left for the day. Luckily, I made it home. I left it running in the driveway for my husband to see (he was about 5 mins behind me) and when he got home my car was completely dead. Nothing works. Let's see who pays for it to be towed back tomorrow, because it sure as hell ain't gonna be me.

I have a 2012 Dodge Avenger, I have experienced all the issues a the others here with the various other Chyrsler models. My battery light came on in Corvalis , OR, over an hour from home and had a child with me. I get to bank go inside come out and start up, lights out but about 1/2 mile down road comes back on. I get back to town and take to auto parts for diagnostic....says voltage regular/alternator failed. I call dealership wher I bought but not a Dodge dealer. They gave me a quote $624 to fix with worst case I.E expensive alternator. Told them I'd bring it in. On my way in light came back on again, couple miles down road ABS light, traction control light, seat belt lights where all on. Then going up a slight hill started losing speed and power but rpm remind high and seemed as if I did step gas it got stuck for a second causing rapid increase speed and rpm. Got it another mile in towards dealer and it stalled out and restarted on own about 10 times in half mile stretch. Finally pulled over and called tow truck to take the last mile to dealer where I bought it. Then I find this site researching issues, I think it's any alternator any make Chyrsler during those years as we all know they use interchangeable parts.

While on my way home Friday night, my 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee started to make a high pitched whine, then the battery light came on a couple miles from home. Sounds like the alternator as noted in the recall. With 38k on my jeep, I'm pretty frustrated....never had another vehicle encounter problems like this so soon. Called Chrysler and they said they would do a goodwill repair if the dealership determined that is in fact the root cause of the problem. Dealership doesn't have any mechanics available until Monday. I'm on my own for car rental.

I just replaced my alternator out-of-pocket on my 2011 Dodge Challenger. This is a VERY common problem with Dodge in general. Another person I know just did the same with their 2012 Dodge Challenger. Mine was NOT under a recall the dealership said. I'm going to follow up with the numbers you have posted here and see what they say. This is a dangerous issue as it shuts your car down and in my instance, the steering was out of control and the ABS/Brake lights came on.

I had it towed to the dealership where I was told that they have to replace the alternator and battery with another "faulty" alternator because they don't have the permanently fixed alternator yet. Also, because my vehicle is out of warranty, I have to pay out of pocket for the faulty replacement but will be reimbursed. The recall has been open for 2 months according to the service manager and he also said he hasn't heard any updates. Dodge does not do loaner cars but do have a shuttle service.

Yes, I have a new 300 sitting in the garage because of this issue. I have an insurance license andl) know that since the corporation has notified me they've met their respknsibility and should I drive and have accident I'm on the hook. I've contacted 2 dealerships requesting a statement from them to go ahead and drive my vehicle as they've recommended.. No such letter from rh0e dealers or Chrysler cust. service. Was directed to contact corp. legal dept. for this letter, which I will. I have a new car I plunked down cash for last May and after taking to dealer before recall about error lights regarding alternator, am still waiting for repair to be completed 2/16/2015. Still no part(s) available? Seriously? I believe National Traffic Assoc. should be notified by every owner the time line shows corporations irresponsibility to thousands (site estmates nearly 1/2 million) of owners of these recall vehicles, which is unthinkable! I believe every owner should call and ask Chrysler legal dept. for letter stating vehicle is safe to drive which means Chrysler takes full responsibility in event of accident or repair which won't happen but needs to be done anyways as well as asking for replacement vehicle, of similar year and type, in meantime which should be available for use but that probably won't happen either. I don't want my family or I to be involved in a fatality but I do wonder how many owners have been involved in accidents or even fatalities related to this recall. I've also been told dealerships have vehicles they're unable to sell due to this recall because they are unsafe to drive, so this is truly wide reaching.... the article mentioned Chrysler knew in 2013 but didn't notify owners until Nov. 2014. I purchased May 2014, and believe I should have had info available to the public by then from Chrysler stating I could purchase but shouldn't drive the 300 because of recalls making it unsafe. No, Chrysler waited until the year was almost over and all the 2014's were sold. In my case, that was 9 months ago, and it's been actually 3 months since the recall came in the mail. I was told today Chrysler still hasn't been able to manufacture a replacement part to remedy this problem, nor is there any idea of when one will be available. Wow, the very first new car I could buy that I can't drive! The jokes on me I guess Chrysler, however this fat lady isn't done singing yet either!

2014 Dodge Charger I have been having issues with the radio and ac/heat not working when it's cold the whole center is dead for 10 minutes then everything resets and it seems like every time I go to dealer it doesn't do it and they can't find anything wrong so I video taped it and brought my car back again and showed them and they said they would check it again I have mentioned everytime that it has a recall on alternator and they say well that shouldn't make a difference ???? I'm like ok well it still needs to be fixed its a recall but they act like its no big deal ugh I so wish I didn't buy this car I paid lots of money and all I get is head ache and run around

I have a 2012 Dodge Charger . Last night I drove about a block away from my house and the abs+traction control lights came on. I immediately went back and pulled up into my driveway and shut off the car. I then tried putting it in start mode but it would only stay in accesory then all the inside electronics started going haywire untill they all finally turned off and now nothing worked. I noticed a little bit of a plastic burnt smell. Im going to give my dealership a call tomorrow morning. What do you guys recommend I do to save money and/or not fall into one of their " no reimbursment " deals? email me if u can help out

is there a lawsuit? This is a very serious safety issue. Recall after recall, just got another one yesterday. Had the same problem with the alternator On my 2011 charger before recall was issued. Had car towed to the closest Chevy dealer and had alternator replaced. Was recently reimbursed by Chrysler. Reading a lot of these posts about car just shutting completely down in the middle of the road with families many lives will be lost before the lemon law kicks in Chrysler?

My new 2014 Dodge Charger that I bought 2 months ago has the same problem. You would think that after all these years with the problem with the alternator they would of found a solution. My engine light came on while I was on the freeway and as I exited it started to shake and eventually went into neutral and shutdown. As I'm writing this my so called new car is already in service repair after only 107 hours of engine time and 1660 miles.

I am sitting in Goldstein Dodge right now with the same exact issue. I have a 2012, Dodge Charger. On Saturday, March 7th 2015, I heard my car making a whining sound. I turned off my car, turned it back on and the ABS lights and electronic stability control lights came on and stayed on. I turned off the car, turned it back on, and they lights stayed on and my BRAKE light came on with it and so did my engine light. I put my car in drive while calling the dealership to let them know I was on my way and my car literally shut off and everything went black. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. My supervisor put her jumper cables on my car and I was able to pull up my windows and the car wouldn't start at all. "Battery Save Mode" on my dashboard illuminated. Called AAA tow guy came out a jumper pack on my car and my car started right up. He told me it looks like the alternator is the issue because as soon as he took off the jumper pack my car turned off. It smelled like something was burning too and he said it's coming from my alternator. Speed up to today, dealership called said they put a new battery in my car and the alternator is fine but since there is a recall P60 on my car, for the alternator they are going to change the alternator too and I have to pay for the battery. No, my battery failed because the alternator drained it and killed it. Now I'm going back and forth with the dealership and Dodge/Chrysler because they don't want to pay to replace the battery and they know damn well my battery only went because of the alternator. I need to join in on this class actio suit and I need legal action.

My husband drove his 2012 Dodge Charger to work yesterday morning. It shut off on him and wouldn't start. He tried to start it and all the light from every corner of the dash board lit up. When I go there the tow truck came. The driver hooked up his jumper cable and it started but as soon as he remove the cable the car shuta off. He told us what my husband had suspected. The alternator was bad. The dealer was closed on Sunday so we towed the car home. On Monday morning we were leaving the house with the dodge in tow to the dealer I checked my mail box and this is the letter we received. It read in part. Dear Mrs M FCA has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety, exist in certain 2011-2014 model year dodge and it named a few different models" vehicles equipped with a 3.6L engine and 160 amps alternator. The alternator diodes on your vehicle may experience a rapid failure. Cut story shot. Last paragraph reads . The driver will have limited or no detection of the alternator failing, which can result in vehicle shutdown while driving and or an underhood electrical fire. I was shocked, while driving to the dealer I was reading the letter, hoping these people would give me a hard time. They didn't in that area but the refused to give us a rental and that's when my blood began to boil. I said in this day and age with all these technology we still can't get it right. I am still glad it wasn't worse. We need a class action. These manufacturers need to do more for us than just fix our vehicles. We should be reimbursed for so much more. Still waiting to see the outcome.

Called the customer services for recall parts because my sons car was effected by this recall and there are no parts being made for the 2013's yet only the 2011 and 2012. No estimated time of when part would be available, so in the mean time I pay for a car that my son can not drive because I don't feel he would be safe. I bought a 2013 dodge charger a year ago, everything was fine until last week while i was on the freeway some lights came up, i exited the freeway and as i was driving all the started flickering and my car completely shut off in the middle of the night. Luckily there were not many cars on the road and i was able to steer to the side. I didnt know theres was a recall until now, i am just mad that the dealership sold me the car knowing that it had this problem. I bought the car in 2014, im sure they knew this type of car had problems. I have no kids but imagine if it happens to a family in the middle of the night and with more traffic. Im sure is the alternator too because like many, i jump started the car and as soon as i removed the cables the car turned off. I took the battery to get checked and they told me its perfectly fine. I think Dodge wants to get sued by not pulling these car out of the market and fixing them.

After getting 2011 Dodge charger back from dealership who told me at the time of service, they would replace my battery but did not ,neither did they tell me at the time of pick up they didnt do so.
A few days after my recalled altornator was replaced my car stop on me , i had my car jumped and it started right up, i drove stright to dealership they then told me they did not replaced my battery and needed to get approval to replace my now bad battery due to the defective altornator they keep my car for 3 days only to me they are declineing replacement of battery and charging me $175.
It very sad they treat customers with such regards big companies taking advantage of their customers
People these companies need to honor defective car parts please contact Morgan and Morgan to have these issues looked into let our voice be heard.

Evey body know a bad altornator will effect the battery and make the battery none functional why would this company put the responsibility back on the customer and ask us to pay them $175 for a problem their defective auto part caused.

Found this on another aite re Dodge Durango and other dodge cars with alternator problems there is a class action lawsuit we can all take part in: "Anyone else get an email about a class action suit against Chrysler Dodge about the 3.6 alternator recall? Their website is and below i the email I received:

    "Still Waiting for Alternators

When Chrysler recalled 917,000 vehicles for bad alternators late last year, many owners thought their days of dimming headlights, strange noises and dead batteries were gone. That celebration soon subsided, however, when Chrysler said parts weren’t going to be immediately available.

No worries, though – this is a serious problem that sometimes leads to car fires! There’s no way Chrysler could possibly dilly-dally on it, right? Maybe some dilly, but definitely no dally.

Here we are nearly six months later, and owners are still waiting for replacement parts. Now a class-action lawsuit has been filed seeking retribution for owners who have:

Left their vehicles parked outside because of the fire risk
Bought new batteries, sometimes multiple, just to keep their cars running
Not been able to get a rental car because Chrysler wouldn’t reimburse the cost
    Who it Affects

The proposed Chrysler alternator class-action lawsuit could involve over 430,000 vehicles, including the 2011–2014 Dodge Challenger, Charger and Durango, the 2011–2014 Chrysler 300 and the 2012–2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. To read more, visit our site.

    Calling All Challenger Owners...

Do you want your vehicle to be part of the class-action lawsuit? Have you had problems like dead batteries, warning lights, dimming headlights and strange sounds? Add your complaint here!

Chrysler can deny the severity of the problem until the cows come home, but it gets a lot harder if owners speak out in force. So if you’ve had alternator problems, tell us now so we can help get Bessie back to the barn[1]. is made and managed in Vermont, so yes – we like farm references. Lettuce be honest, they really can’t be beet. ↩"

The battery saver mode thing just happened to me too in the last few days. My girl was at McDonald s when the car started going haywire, lights dimming, power steering failing, and the car just shut off. We had the car jumped and it made it ten feet and cut off again. We were finally able to get the car home but soon as I got in the driveway it started doing it again. I started doing some research and all the info I found is saying the same thing u guys are saying. So Chrysler really has no solution for this problem? This is crazy.. Once I got home I called to check my extended warranty and that is when I was told about the alternator recall. I was livid. I never received any notice of this recall when is proven to be very dangerous. I called several Chrysler service dealers and I was told I needed to make an appointment and would not get one until a week away. I called the corporate office to complain and the rep found a service dealer that could see me right away. The service guy was able to get me a rental, but at my expense which is unfair. While on the freeway all dash lights came on like a Christmas tree and great volume of smoke filled the car from the back making it hard to see or breath. Battery started melting and main power harness melted and there is a hole in the trunk from this. There was after market amp wiring installed but there were no fuses blown that indicated this was an aftermarket installation pronlem. Yet Dodge is saying it's the aftermarket installation knowing they have faulty alternators. All wiring has to be redone and not to mention the car smells like there was a BBQ in there. Luckily this didn't happen 5 minutes earlier while my kids and I were driving 70mph down the highway. I was able to coast into a parking spot where I waited for a tow truck to take the car to a local dealer.
The dealer is refusing to pay for the battery (quoted price of $219.00) or tow ($130.00) because his diagnostic machine is saying my battery was "severly discharged" and at that moment the alternator was testing at 11.8 volts.

I have a 2010 dodge charger sxt 3.5, I was driving and it made a ding sound and then my abs, traction control, battery, and check engine light came on. Pulled over and turned it off, then would not start due to dead battery. I automatically assumed it was the alternator, but couldn't jump it and the cables got really hot. Any ideas?

Have a 2012 charger, abs light and traction light stays on, took car to dealer ship to have the recalls fixed, they fixed the recalls but it didn't fix abs and traction lights. Dealership said that it was a sensor on the tire but Chrysler would not fix it because they said that it wasn't part of the recalls. I have been searching online and have seen so many people having this same problem so it has to be something that was a problem when manufactured. I suggest everyone call the recall number so they can see how owners are having the same issues.

180amp alternator on a 2012 charger. Same thing. No help whatsoever! Please let me know anything wise we can do to make them recall All of them

Same issue alternator on 2012 charger. 5.7L engine so not covered by 435 recall because it "only affects 3.6L engines"! BS im filing a report because my car stalled without warning which becomes a safety hazard!

I have a 2013 3.6L , 180 amp, while driving while driving , battery saving mode came up in two different occasions, according to service department there is no recall because it's not 160amp. Car was under 60,000 my. So why is it not getting fixed!

2012 dodge Charger STX 3.6L completely stalled at a red light. had it towed to a dealership they want $150 for diagnostic and then another $400 to start working on it. They said the computer is completely fried. I said It had recalls they said no. I'm not sure about the alternator size. What should I do know?

  160. Ben [ August 30, 2016 @ 09:05AM ]

This also just happened to me while driving down a busy street!! I got the battery saver mode while I was on the freeway...they got it again later that night and car lights shut off and I lost my powers steering!! Had to muscle my way home then my car would not shut off and it overheated!!!! Called Chrysler and they gave me same bs that my car is 180 amp and isn't recalled yet. What will take? Till Simone's family is killed by these defective cars? This could've failed with my kids in the car while on the highway. This is ridiculous. We need to make some noise on this

  161. Ben [ August 30, 2016 @ 09:31AM ]

Everyone who has had this problem file a complaint with the nhsta and Chrysler corporate offices. They will continue to do nothing about these 180amp alternators if we don't make noise on this issue.

  163. GoreGamer [ September 13, 2016 @ 02:06PM ]

This also happened to me, I was driving home. My bettery light came on... about 5 min later my ABS light and ESC light came on and off off and on. Then my blind spot checkers it said they were off. Not long later all my gauges and dashboard screens started going in and out. Not long after that my windshield wipers started to turn on very slowly, I was unable to roll down my windows or even turn the car off. My children are in the car and crying. They believe we were going to crash. I wasn't able to use the brakes properly in my car and had to pump very hard in order to stop the car and even turn the steering wheel was difficult. After doing some reasearch online I saw the recall. But am shocked that they refused to even look at the car and want $300 for a new battery and that's only to start to look. They need to fix this and now!

I just had the same issue with my 2012 Dodge Charger. The battery mode came on than my car smelled like burning wires so I parked the car at a nearby gas station. And turned it off. I turned my car back on and the battery saving mode came on again,y radio shut off than my air conditioner my gears was switching on its own than my windshield wiper decided to turn on it was like my car was possessed. Than my screen went white and the whole car shut down. I couldn't push start or nothing. I called the dealership repairing my car, they said there no recall which is bs I showed them this website but said nothing showing they have to recall it yet so they are getting me to pay. I'm so worried. I can't afford this now that Ontario hydro is going up again. Something needs to be done. Please help!

My 2012 Dodge Charger had to have the alternator & battery replaced recently and was told it is not under warranty or recall? My VIN 2C3CDXHG5CH149648. I don't understand why this would not be part of the recall, cost was crazy high in my opinion and the Dodge dealer in town here was not very nice just to bad for you pay or take somewhere else! $1,201.23 was the cost nothing covered by warranty. My car has low miles 43,986 at the time. Just seems like everything is not being made to last. Probably will not purchase another Dodge after this experience.

After that I drove it a couple of min then that's when I was like what the heck.... My car is possesed.. My brake light came on.. Like if I had put my emergency brake light and I had no control over my vehicle... Then to be able to turn so I can try to get off the road my steering wheel was hard to turn... After that it smelled as if something was burning... It was such a scary bad experience... They are telling me that the alternator isn't recalled... Then what is it?

Just happened to me ABS light along with traction control light then a/c started blowing hot , lights dimmed loss of power in motor then no power steering or power brakes then engine died and car won't start. 5 different codes and every time I try to start it says not in park . Put the jump box on and started up and stall when disconnected so I left it on to get home about a 1/2 mile

  176. Nick [ September 30, 2016 @ 05:02PM ]

My 2011 Durango with 64,000 miles had the battery light come on and then the lights went crazy and the vehicle died while my wife was driving it with our kids in the car. Luckily there wasn't much traffic and she used all her strength to steer the car and stop it in a safe location.(had there have been traffic she said there would would have been a high chance of an accident) I did research and found about the recall, called the dealership and our vehicle isn't included. Called the Chrysler recall Center and filed a claim. Everyone experiencing this problem should do the same, as I was told there has to be a certain number of reports and claims for them to issue a recall.

I own a 2012 Dodge Durange (3.6L) and my alternator shorted out this week along with the PCM (Performance Control Module). I lost the entire electrical system and had the car towed to the dealer. I found a recall notice on the web and called the Chrysler Customer Service Center and gave them my VIN. They advised that my car was not included but could not give me a specific reason other than the fact that recalls are based on specific VINs. I asked them how my problem gets reported so it can be considered and added to the recall. They took my information and advised me to watch for future recall notices. If you have a problem with your alternator you need to call and notify Chrysler. It sounds like recalls are based somewhat on the number of reported problems and complaints.

I have a 2013 Dodge charger . I was driving when all the warning lights came on windshields wipers, the heater and then it just died and smelled like really bad plastic burning smell. IT is in fact the alternator and Chrysler needs to recall before someone gets killed . I was lucky it was daytime and managed not to hit anything or be hit .

I have a 2007 Dodge Charger, today I was on the highway and the battery light came on my dash and then all the lights started to come on and the car start to jerk a few time before turning off. All the lights were still on including headlights and interior lights but my car would not crank over to start. I received a jump and the car started but all the lights stayed on and when I drove my car wouldn't display how fast I was going but I was flooring the gas paddle and I felt like I was only going about 30-40 miles per hour. My car died again and I jumped it again but I turned the radio off, and the head lights off and it didn't die. My car still drove the same but I was able to drive home. I was told it was the alternator. Can anybody tell me what's the problem if had any similar problems..?

  186. CW [ February 8, 2017 @ 03:15PM ]

This happens to the 180 amp alternator to. Was in my charger Monday on the way to work on a busy freeway, lights started flashing different warnings so I immediately pulled the shoulder (thankfully I was in the right hand lane.) as I am pulling over I lose steering function. As soon as I put the car in park the car died and would not start. So now my car is in the shop being repaired. But because my car is the 180 amp alternator mine is not covered in the recall however my car did everything except catch fire from the recall of the 160am alternator. I am very frustrated. I am saving the receipts in case mopar recalls the 180 amp alternator.

We had a 2013 Dodge Charger that the alternator went driving down the highway, within two days we traded it in!!! Dodge Chrysler did not want to do anything because it was not under the recalled items. Now tonight same Battery saver mode came on my 2012 Chrysler 300!!! Not happy knowing I am going to have to put out of pocket for another altenator!!! Obviously Chrysler has a problem and I will also trade this vehicle in as soon as possible!!!! I will never go back to Chrysler when obviously they know they have a problem!!!

Paid cash for my 2012 Dodge charger rt. Had the car towed to the dealership. Tri-Ciy Dodge in Eden NC. Called Chrysler they told me they would return my call but never did. I called them again on September 14, 2017 and the guy told me they'd call me back in one business day. I bought an extended warranty 8 year 100,000 mile warranty. Nothing has been done nothing but a damn run around!! What the hell are they thinking? Like a damn warranty isn't worth a fuck!!! I told the guy I talked to that I needed another charger or something. Hell I haven't even been offered a damn rental car. I told my wife not to buy a charger she was interested in because they're not doing shit about my car! The damn thing shut down on me 4 times got jumped off each time and barley made it home. I got it towed to that dealership and it's been parted there for like almost 3 weeks. Dodge doing some dirty shit because they didn't have a problem taking my damn money when I bought this car so why am I catching hell getting another car from them or something! For real I think they should give me another Dodge charger rt equal value! I'm very pissed at DODGE because they're not doing shit for me the customer!!! I wouldn't buy another one from this Company because they haven't done shit for me in this situation!!!! That's again DODGE!!!!!

Alternator burnt up in March of 2017. Replaced alternator myself as I was unaware of pending recall and can't afford the outrageous repair cost. Now I am consistently getting error codes and other electrical problems. Car will suddenly loose power when driving and I have to stop and restart engine. I think Dodge should be responsible for any and all problems which may be associated with the alternator problem. Several mechanics have informed me the alternator failure is most likely the cause of my problems.

Took my 2006 dodge charger to dealership for recall on airbag and now my altenator is no do you go from not having tht problem to all of a sudden the same day you get your car back from the dealer and now your car won't start...

I had the same thing happen to my 2012 Dodge Charger was alternator and also messed up my battery as to it got hot. Warning if it happens when ur driving it’s scary and the car will not go into park until it fully quits talked to Chrysler and am getting reimbursed for the cost but it takes 60 days to get your reimbursement contact Chrysler to anybody who has already replaced and get reimbursement case setup

  202. A St Peter [ November 28, 2017 @ 10:21AM ]

I have a 2013 Dodge Charger, in June 2017 had the Battery Save Mode come on, I felt very fortunate that I was not on the highway driving when this happened, was at a stop light and trying to accelerate again when the car felt like it came to a complete hard stop and then went crazy, within a few seconds the A/C turned off and blew very hot air, wipers came on, a smoke smell came from under the hood into the air vents, lost steering control and brakes, the car was quickly dying. I was lucky enough to get into a parking lot and off the street, but couldn't turn the car off until it died on it's own. I had the car towed to my local Dodge dealership, at the time they told me there was not a Recall for my specific car for this issue. So paid to have the alternator replaced and a new battery as it fried the one I had just bought 6 months ago. In September 2017 I get a Recall notice in the mail for this issue, so submitted my receipts, waited the 60 days and then called to see what the status was of my reimbursement. I was told that due to the Hurricanes that there are now delays in the reimbursement process. I was told it was now 90 days.... well, in one more week will be 90 days.... not holding my breath that it will happen by then either. I was informed that the new Alternator I paid for was also faulty and I would have to bring it back to the dealership once they have a fix figured out....

  203. Penelope decker [ December 9, 2017 @ 09:48AM ]

I too had the recall for my 2012 RT Charger. They said it would be several months. No problems so I didn’t worry. Then out of the blue couple nights back. I had a smell , battery and then the whole gamma everyone else has said. That was scary. Me being a female and losing power steering was bad enough. So also being lucky to have a good dealership, I had my service managers name & #, plus roadside service through my insurance. I am happy to say he text me back & made me feel at ease. Thank you Johnathen @ LS Dodge. Within 23 hours I had my baby back free of charge. Just to be safe I myself purchased & replaced for a new $170 battery. They said I would still need to get the recall done in mid 2018. Good luck everyone, not all dealers are alike. Choose dealerships wisely.

  204. Jessica Barnes [ February 20, 2018 @ 04:20PM ]

2013 charger stopped in the middle of driving and ignited. Had the car towed to dealership where they told me they would have to replace the alternator, but this would not fix the problem since the part needed does not exist. Got the car back it ran for 2 months and today the same thing happened. Waiting for the tow truck as we speak. I love my car, but I am not happy that I am driving my children around in a time bomb. I have a child that is in a car seat. What happened when this car lights on fire again and my kid is stuck in her car seat? WTF MOPAR? Do better!
