Iceland Passes Law to Allow Carsharing

The Icelandic parliament has recently passed a law permitting peer-to-peer carsharing services, according to a report by the Iceland Review.

The law allows individuals to rent up to two cars per year through a certified carsharing agency, says the report. This arrangement is similar to Airbnb where people can temporarily rent out their homes to visitors.

Carsharing agencies will be responsible to make sure that each rented vehicle is inspected and has proper auto insurance, says the report.

“This really means that a person can rent their car for an unlimited time over the course of the year,” Solvi Melax of Viking Cars, a carsharing agency, told the Iceland Review.
