Sojern, a performance marketing platform for travel brands, has released its Q4 2015 Global Travel Insights Report — as well as its 2016 Travel Forecast — based on the analysis of more than a billion traveler intent data points across the globe.

Globally, the top eight countries that attracted the most interest during the fourth quarter overlapped with the top eight of the most booked: United States, Mexico, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, France, Germany and Portugal. India and Turkey grabbed the last two spots in the top 10 countries searched, while Switzerland and the Netherlands gained the last two spots in the top 10 countries most booked.

Unlike in previous quarters, neither Thailand nor Greece made it into the top 10, according to the Sojern report. October was the most popular month for both search and bookings, capturing 37% and 38% respectively of the quarter’s searches and bookings.

In the weeks following the attacks in Paris in November, travel intent to Paris from North America dropped by as much as 33% percent week-on-week. More recovery is under way: on Jan. 1, U.S. travelers displayed a 46% week-on-week increase in travel intent to Paris while U.K. travelers hit a 57% increase in travel intent.

For both Americans and Europeans, Brazil is the destination with the biggest jump in 2016 so far — compared to 2015, according to Sojern’s Travel Trends Report for spring 2016. Brazil climbed nine spaces to position 14 for U.S. travelers and jumped up 12 spaces to position 5 for Europeans. Cuba and Haiti also climbed in ranking year-over-year.

The Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Jamaica all dropped down the list of top 10 destinations for U.S. travelers in 2016, according to the report.

Popular cities for U.S. travelers in 2016 include Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Sydney and Reykjavik, Iceland.
For the Easter holiday travel forecast, Miami is the top destination for travelers from Argentina, Brazil and Colombia. New York and Cancun are also top destinations for these Latin American travelers.
