Ford Motor Co. is recalling approximately 550,000 2013 to 2016 Fusion midsize sedans and 2013 to 2014 Escape compact SUVs in North America because the bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may be degraded and detach from the transmission, which could result in a rollaway.
The majority of affected vehicles were sold in the U.S., but some are in Canada and Mexico, according to the automaker.
The recall, which also affects the Lincoln MKZ, covers more than 5,000 vehicles in the 2017 model year.
The recall covers nearly 603,000 vehicles in the 2013 to 2016 model years.
Uber launched self-driving vehicles in Pittsburgh on Sept. 14, giving passengers the option to request a self-driving car with the Uber app.

In the last week, Ford has issued five safety recall notices for nearly 1 million cars and trucks, including the Fusion, Fiesta, Edge, Escape, Focus and Lincoln MKZ. A majority of the vehicles are from the 2013 to 2015 model years.
Ford has issued a safety compliance recall for approximately 65,000 2014-2015 Fusion vehicles in North America for a programming issue in the instrument cluster.
Two of the recalls, involving Escape, Mercury Mariner and Explorer SUVs, are tied to a potential loss of power steering.
As Budget adds 2013 model-year vehicles to fleet, it said that 2012 model-year vehicles will be available for purchase via the company's Ultimate Test Drive program in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Nevada and Texas.
