Retired owner of U-Save of Glenside, Tom Mellett received the Altman Family Pilot of the Year Award from Angel Flight East. The award was presented to Mellett at a gala event on April 30.

One of Mellett's hobbies is charity flying for Angel Flight East. Mellett said he had more time for the hobby once he announced his retirement on October 1, 2021, after 33 years in the vehicle rental business.

Angel Flight East is a non-profit that makes hundreds of flights a year in the Northeastern U.S., transferring ill patients to medical treatments far from their homes. Then, it pivoted to flying PPEs to medical and essential workers during the pandemic.

“I'm a big believer in giving back and being of service to others,” Mellett said in June 2020. “Undoubtedly, I get so much more out of it than the recipient.”
