According to Chicago Sun Times, the Chicago City Council’s Finance Committee approved $750 million in borrowing for the O’Hare airport to extend its people mover system, and build a rental car complex and parking garage.

The system will receive a half-mile extension to the new rental car facility and 15 new cars that will double passenger capacity. The people mover extension is set to open in 2016.

The $8 fee on car rentals at O’Hare — the “customer facility charge” — was introduced in 2010 and backs the project. The city’s administration said there are no plans to raise the fee at this time.
