City CarShare, a nonprofit carsharing organization, released its annual report highlighting the organization’s impact in Northern California for 2012-2013, in honor of Earth Day.

Results showed a savings of 85 million fewer pounds of CO2 emissions and 4.3 million fewer gallons of gasoline used last year. Since the organization launched in 2001, there has been a savings of 423 million pounds of CO2 emissions.

The organization also reported that a total of 25 million fewer miles were driven overall due to City CarShare. An estimated 68,000 fewer miles were driven on Earth Day alone this year.

By using their City CarShare membership, members can save $8,400 a year on the costs of car ownership, said City CarShare CEO Rick Hutchinson.

City CarShare also announced it is 5% away from reaching its goal of converting half of its fleet to hybrids, plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles by 2015. The nonprofit plans to add an additional 18 plug-in vehicles by the end of 2013.
