Minneapolis Expands New Car-Sharing Program

Minneapolis will now be welcoming three car-sharing companies to its pilot car-sharing program. This week, the Minneapolis City Council voted to add HOURCAR and Zipcar to the two-year program; car2go had already been approved in April, according to the City of Minneapolis.

These car-sharing vehicles will be available throughout the city using on-street and off-street parking spaces, says the City of Minneapolis. Rates will generally cover vehicle expenses such as maintenance, fuel, insurance and parking fees. According to the City of Minneapolis, car-sharing vehicles can be rented by the hour or day.

Once the public works department negotiates agreements with HOURCAR and Zipcar, the city council will then approve any final agreements, says the City of Minneapolis.
