After voting unanimously on Tuesday, the Oklahoma City Council permitted funding for Will Rogers World Airport’s new consolidated car rental facility, according to a report by The Oklahoman.

Anticipated to open in spring 2015 with a current estimated cost of $44 million, the council authorized the Oklahoma City Airport Trust to borrow up to $50 million for the new rental car development, says the report.

Mark Kranenburg, director of the Oklahoma City Department of Airports, told The Oklahoman that the new center will serve the airport’s needs and provide parking spaces near the terminal for visitors — the facility will be able to house 900 rentals.

In addition, the facility will combine rental company administrative, customer service and maintenance operations, according to the report.

To pay off the debt over 30 years, there is going to be a charge on rental cars — now set at $4.50 per day, says the report.
