The California Coastal Commission has approved the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority’s coastal development permit for a new rental car facility at San Diego International Airport — with certain conditions.

According to the California Coastal Commission, the car rental center will include a four-story, 66-foot high structure with 417 parking spaces. Located on the northern side of the airport, the new rental center will consolidate all the rental car facilities into one location.

In addition, the project also includes the development of an on-airport shuttle circulation road to connect the rental center with airport terminals, says the Commission.

Because the planned project raises concerns relating to water quality, protection of public views and public access, the California Coastal Commission’s conditions for approval include submission of an Erosion Control and Construction Best Management Practices Plan, a Water Quality Technical Report and a Transportation Demand Management Program, says the Commission.

The consolidated rental car center is scheduled to be finished in 2015.
