Starting in 2014, car2go will expand its car-sharing service to Rome after its success in Milan, according to a report by Wanted in Rome. After launching in August in Milan, car2go had 50,000 subscribers within two months.

Rome will be car2go’s second location in Italy, says the report. After Rome, the car-sharing service is expected to expand to Florence and Bologna.

A network of car2go edition smart fortwo vehicles will be available for shared use at specific points throughout the city. According to the report, the cost for registered users (including fuel surcharge, taxes, insurance) is an average of .29 euros per minute.

Started as a pilot project in Ulm, Germany in 2008 with 50 cars, car2go is now operating in 25 cities in Europe and the United States.
