The Amarillo City Council has awarded a $4.29 million contract to build a new rental car service center at the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport, according to a report by the Amarillo Globe-News. Southwest General Contractors was given the project.

The rental car companies will use the new center to park rental cars closer to the terminal and prep the cars for customers, says the report.

According to the report, funding will be provided by the Airport Capital Improvement Program, which collects a passenger facility charge.

“There are currently four separate facilities that are owned by the airport,” City Manager Jarrett Atkinson told the Amarillo Globe-News. “This project will allow us over time to eliminate them.”
