San Antonio Police Chief William McManus declared ride-sharing mobile apps, such as Lyft, as illegal in San Antonio for failure to meet inspection, licensing, background check and car safety standards, according to a report by 1200 WOAI News Radio.

McManus sent Lyft a cease-and-desist letter saying it needs to meet taxi regulations before setting up operations in San Antonio. He warned ride-sharing drivers could be arrested, says the report.

But San Antonio Mayor Castro told WOAI news that he will work with Lyft to “meet strong standards for safety and quality (insurance, driver background checks, etc.).”
