car2Go, a subsidiary of Daimler AG, will expand its car-sharing service to Redondo Beach, Calif., this summer, according to a report by the Daily Breeze.

Redondo Beach is one of nine South Bay cities that car2go has targeted. Currently, El Segundo, Hermosa Beach, Lomita and now Redondo Beach are all confirmed in the program, Walter Rosenkranz, Car2Go’s business development manager, told the Daily Breeze

The Redondo Beach City Council has some hesitation regarding parking issues, but others believe the car-sharing program will reduce the number of cars parked on city streets and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, according to the report.

With car2Go, users pay a one-time $35 registration fee and rental rates start at 41 cents a minute, $14.99 an hour or $84.99 a day.
