Portland, Ore., took the No. 1 spot for having the most expensive U.S. car rental rates this summer, according to a survey by CheapCarRental.net.
The survey compared the rental car rates at more than 100 destinations across the U.S. during the month of August.
Car renters in Portland can expect to pay an average of $111 per day for the cheapest available rental car. In second place, Anchorage, Alaska, has an average rental rate of $109 per day. And Kailua, Hawaii, takes third place with an average daily price of $101.
From August 1-31, 2014, here are the top 10 cities with the most expensive daily rental rates: 1) Portland, $111; 2) Anchorage, $109; 3) Kailua, $101; 4) Louisville, $99; 5) Detroit, $90; 6) Denver, $88; 7) Seattle, $78; 8) San Jose, $76; 9) Tulsa, $75; 10) Hartford, $75.
The survey’s car rental rates were collected in late July by Expedia's car rental comparison engine. Each city’s main airport was chosen as the pick-up and drop-off location.
