Zipcar has added a 2014 Honda Fit electric vehicle to Sacramento’s West Village, a zero-net energy community at the University of California, Davis.

The car-sharing vehicle will contribute to the community’s goal to generate as much energy as it consumes over the course of a year. Zipcar’s electric Honda Fit is designed to reduce carbon emissions produced by vehicles, says the company.

“UC Davis and West Village are getting closer and closer to their goal of creating a zero net energy community, and our convenient, cost-effective and sustainable transportation option will be a key component,” said Chris Witmer, Zipcar Sacramento’s market manager. “With an all-electric Zipcar available by the hour, West Village residents can minimize their emissions without sacrificing their ability to do errands, visit friends or take other trips.”

The new Honda Fit EV joins West Village’s other Zipcar, a Honda Insight. Both vehicles are available to Zipcar members, starting at $8.50 per hour, says the company.
