The Amarillo City Council unanimously approved regulating ride-share services similar to taxi drivers, according to a report by the Amarillo Globe-News.

Ride-sharing services, such as Uber, use mobile apps to connect customers with vehicle drivers.
Amarillo’s regulations require driver identification, including fingerprints, as well as police background checks of drivers, according to the report.

“This is for the safety of the public that we’re responsible for,” City Councilman Jim Simms told the Amarillo Globe-News.
