The University of Rochester has partnered with Zimride by Enterprise, a service of Enterprise Rent-A-Car, to launch a new transportation option for students, faculty and staff of the university and Medical Center.

Zimride is a free online ride-matching service that connects drivers and passengers heading to the same area, according to Enterprise. On zimride.com, drivers and passengers can set up a profile, search for open seats or post their ride and destination. Members can even link their profile to their Facebook page.

“With Zimride, members of the university community can coordinate one-time travel plans, such as holiday break rides or needs for ongoing rides, such as daily commutes to campus,” said Ryan Johnson, vice president at Enterprise. “At Enterprise, we strive to be a total transportation solution for our customers by providing a range of sustainable options. Zimride is just one example.”

With the Rochester service now live, several hundred members have already signed up. The Zimride offering at University of Rochester is part of the UR Connections initiative, which combines car sharing, ride matching, university shuttle service and public transportation to meet the transportation needs of students, according to Enterprise.

“By offering Zimride, we can help the campus community more cost-effectively, sustainably and efficiently get around the area,” said Hugh Kierig, director of parking and transportation services. “As our campus continues to grow and expand, this supports the transportation needs of those who commute to and from campus or the Medical Center every day. …”
