An audit by the Allegheny County controller’s office has found that Pittsburgh International Airport’s Hertz location underpaid $435,777 in county rental taxes, according to a report by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Hertz must also pay an additional $207,530 for penalties and interest, says the report.
Hertz said the reason for the underpayment was a computer glitch that has since been resolved, according to the report. The underpayment took place from May 2010 to June 2011, Deputy Controller Amy Griser told the Post-Gazette.
Hertz agreed on the figure it underpaid but wanted to look over the calculation for penalty and interest, Griser told the Post-Gazette. Once paid, the money will be deposited as revenue in the county’s transit fund.
