The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority is considering doubling the fee it collects on rental cars at Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley International Airport, according to a report by The Express-Times’ LehighValleyLive.com.

Currently, Lehigh Valley Airport collects a $2 customer facility charge on each car rented at the airport, which generates about $150,000 yearly, Darren Betters, the authority’s business and commercial services director, told The Express-Times.

Increasing the fee to $4 would help fund capital projects that could benefit the airport’s rental car companies, according to the report.

The airport authority could use the money to match a $750,000 state grant to move the rental lots closer to the terminal and cover pedestrian walkways, Betters told The Express-Times.

An increased tax on all rental cars in the Lehigh Valley needs approval of Lehigh County and Northampton County officials, says the report.
