The Hawaii Department of Transportation’s Airports Division has awarded a $327 million contract to Honolulu’s Nan Inc. to build a consolidated car rental facility at Maui’s Kahului Airport, according to a report by the Pacific Business News.

The new multilevel consolidated car rental facility will include a customer service building, a ready/return rental car facility, turnaround area for refueling, maintenance and washing of vehicles, and a parking facility with 4,900 spaces, says the report. The facility will be located southwest of the Kahului terminal.

This project will also include a people-mover system between the terminal and car rental facility, installation of four fuel storage tanks and solar panels, according to the report.

The contract with Nan Inc. is part of Hawaii’s Airports Modernization Program, which is funded by airport user fees, says the report.
