An Alabama House budget committee is holding public hearings on a proposal to raise automobile rental taxes, according to the Associated Press.

Gov. Robert Bentley originally proposed the car rental tax be increased from 1.5% to 4%, but budget committee chairman Rep. Steve Clouse reduced the increase to 2%.

According to Clouse, the tax hikes will raise an estimated $6 million for the state.
