The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is currently studying a proposal that would make vehicle rentals available for public transportation, according to an article by Gulf Business.

The article reported the program, called the Smart Rental Initiative, would lower carbon emissions, reduce car ownership and make transportation easier in metro areas.

The RTA is exploring multiple ways as to how the program would work, but it would essentially allow people to rent a vehicle for up to six hours through a mobile app or online. Carsharing is also an option the RTA is looking into for sustainable transportation.
