Starting in January, the Metropolitan Airports Commission will increase Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport’s rental auto facility charge from $3.25 to $5.90, according to a report by KSTP 5 News.

The rate increase will be for at least the next four years to help pay for new rental car facilities, according to the report. To compare, the rental auto facility charge is $5 in Atlanta, $6 in Boston and $8 in Chicago.

“We have to pay attention to what it costs to travel and make it so it’s not so unaffordable to the point where the business community starts saying, you know, we’re going to do Skype meetings and not going to send people traveling this week to Target or Medtronic,” Dan Bolvin, chairman of the Metropolitan Airports Commission, told KSTP 5.
