Zipcar has announced that it will make over 7,000 vehicles — across the U.S. — free to use on election night to encourage its members to get out and vote.

Select vehicles will be free from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 8 in all Zipcar markets, including hundreds of U.S. cities and towns and over 500 college campuses.

Zipcar members can reserve a vehicle starting on Nov. 4 for those select evening hours and are encouraged to carpool to #DRIVEtheVOTE. Zipcar selected the evening hours on election night to ensure that members who need to zip to the polls during the last few hours have free and easy access to transportation, according to the company.

"At Zipcar, we know our community of Zipsters is actively engaged in civic affairs and passionate about issues, but may also need quick and easy access to transportation in order to vote,” said Andrew Daley, Zipcar’s vice president of marketing. “We decided to do our part to #DRIVEtheVOTE by making cars free. Regardless of political affiliation or sentiment, we believe that voting is a civic duty, and we want to ensure that access to transportation isn't a barrier to casting a ballot."
