Perth Passengers in Favor of Security Cameras in Ubers

In a recent poll, residents in Perth, Australia, voted in favor of ride-hailing service Uber installing security cameras in its vehicles, according to a report by the West Australian.

The ReachTel poll, commissioned by Campaign Capital, found 70% of those polled agreed that Uber drivers should install security cameras in their vehicles, similar to the taxi industry, says the report.

Of 876 people polled, 73% of females and 67% of males voted in favor of installing cameras, according to the report.

Transport Minister Bill Marmion said requirements for on-demand operators and those in the taxi industry would be reviewed as part of the stage 2 reforms.

“Unlike taxis, on-demand operators, including ride-sharing vehicles, are unable to legally accept anonymous rank or hail fares,” Marmion told the West Australian. “On-demand vehicles must be pre-booked and disclose the identity of the driver, and the fare is also agreed prior to the trip.”
