Zipcar and Miami-Dade County have announced a new partnership to add Zipcars to five Metrorail stations.

The partnership seeks to increase the number of sustainable mobility options throughout Miami-Dade County, according to Zipcar.

Ten Zipcars, including a Ford Focus named “Semester” and a Toyota Prius named “Paddy,” are available for reservation at the following five Metrorail stations: Vizcaya Station, Coconut Grove Station, Palmetto Station, Hialeah Station, and Earlington Heights Station.

“Miami-Dade County already has ride-sharing services in place throughout the county, and now we’re making carsharing that much more accessible,” said Carlos A. Gimenez, mayor of Miami-Dade County. “What this means is that our transit riders can leave their cars at home, ride our system, and if they need a car for anything in between, there will be Zipcars available to reserve. By adding Zipcars to our Metrorail stations, this option will help close that first and last mile gap.”

Zipcar’s new Metrorail locations build on the company’s presence throughout South Florida where it has been operating since November 2012.

“At Zipcar, we’re big fans of public transit,” said Vilaire Lazard, Zipcar’s general manager. “We know that it’s an important part of our members’ transportation portfolio, and together, the two services complement one another, offering members greater connectivity and the ability to live car-free or car-lite. We’re excited to team up with Miami-Dade County, providing an easy way for Zipcar members to explore neighborhoods and communities that are beyond the reach of the Metrorail from South Beach to Hialeah.”
