Car rental companies purchasing a large amount of vehicles helped New Zealand achieve a record high of nearly 160,000 vehicles sold in 2017, reported Stuff.

According to Motor Industry Association chief executive David Crawford, a strong demand for rental cars by tourists led to more auto rental companies purchasing vehicles.

“...Rental car companies are increasing and renewing their fleet because of the strong inbound tourism sector,” Crawford said.
