Alabama Senate Passes Rental Tax Bill

The Alabama Senate unanimously passed a bill, 22-0, adding a 3% tax to car rentals and leases in Jefferson County.

The money collected from the taxes will be used toward constructing a stadium and upgrading the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Complex. The taxes collected are estimated to result in $3.5 million in revenue per year.

After passing through the senate, the bill will be voted on by the Alabama House of Representatives.
