A driver allegedly struck several pedestrians using what appears to be a Ryder Truck Rental & Leasing van in Toronto this afternoon, according to BuzzFeed News.

So far, 10 people have died and 15 others have been injured in the incident. Police officers located the van and placed the driver in custody. Police have yet to determine a motive for the crash and have not called it a terrorist attack.

Police later identified the man driving the truck as 25-year-old Alek Minassian, from Richmond Hill, Ontario.

Witnesses shared photos of the van after police detained the driver.

In a statement later this afternoon, Ryder said it was saddened by the news and expressed sympathy to those affected by the attack.

"We take the safety and security related to the use of our entire fleet very seriously and we are cooperating fully with authorities," the statement ended.

After the attack, Sunnybrook Hospital reported receiving 10 victims of the crash, two of whom were pronounced dead on arrival, five in critical condition, two in serious condition, and one in fair condition.

Miniassian appeared in court Tuesday morning and was charged with 10 counts of murder and 13 counts of attempted murder.

This news item was updated April 24 to identify Alek Minassian and include the updated number of victims.
