U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) was honored as the 2018 Legislator of the Year from the American Car Rental Association (ACRA) last week due to his work on autonomous vehicle legislation this year in Congress.

“I am grateful to be recognized as the 2018 Legislator of the Year by the American Car Rental Association.” Inhofe said in a statement. “I commend ACRA for their dedication to the advancement of technology in the automotive industry and will continue to work in Congress to responsibly and effectively determine how to manage the data that is produced by autonomous vehicles.”

Inhofe introduced an amendment to the AV START Act to establish a committee that would bring all relevant stakeholders together to discuss the control of and access to data produced by autonomous vehicles and propose policy recommendations to Congress.

The bill now awaits further consideration on the Senate floor.
