As people in India are advised to work from home to stop the spread of COVID-19, inter-city demand for car rental has declined 10% to 15% in March online, The Hindu Business Line reports.

Rental bookings from airports have experienced the worst slump, as the government has warned against all non essential travel. As business travel takes a hit, fewer people are heading to India for work.

According to online statistics, 23.8 million people in India use car rental services.

While inter-city bookings have suffered, intra-city car rentals have remained stable, as many are choosing to rent cars in lieu of using public transportation. Many people are opting for long-term rentals in an effort to reduce the chance of spreading the virus, according to some operators.
