WASHINGTON D.C. -- Senator James Inhofe (R-Okla.) has indicated the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works may consider proposed federal vicarious liability reform in September, according to the Vehicle Renting and Leasing Fairness Alliance (VRLFA).

Review of the proposed tort reform would come as the committee considers reauthorizing federal highway programs.

The VRLFA, founded by the Truck Renting and Leasing Association, is a lobbying group backed by the car and truck rental and leasing industries. The Truck Renting and Leasing Association said its representatives have recently met with the staff members of several senators to discuss the need to repeal state vicarious liability laws.
