PHOENIX -- America West Airlines announced plans for new service to New Orleans and Houston, as well as additional flights to Detroit and San Diego, from its Las Vegas hub.

Beginning Sept. 9, one nonstop flight will operate three days a week to New Orleans. Beginning Oct. 18, the airline will operate one daily nonstop flight to Houston. Also on Oct. 18, America West will initiate a second daily nonstop to Detroit, along with an additional daily flight to San Diego.

"We're pleased to provide our customers with additional service in Las Vegas, one of the most popular destinations in the country," said Dion Flannery, the airline's vice president of scheduling, route planning and Internet distribution. "By October, we will have increased peak daily departures in our Las Vegas hub 32% since the beginning of the year."

America West provides nonstop service to 52 cities.
