PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island Gov. Donald L. Carcieri has vetoed a bill aimed at protecting a policyholder's right to choose a rental car provider.
The bill (S-2616) would have prohibited insurance carriers from refusing to direct-bill an insured's choice of rental car company. The legislation, which passed both the House and Senate, would have amended the state's Unfair Claims Settlement Practices Act.
A number of states have adopted anti-steering legislation to protect a policyholder's right to choose a glass-replacement provider or repair garage.
